I used to have awareness during sleep paralysis until I stopped eating Monosodium Glutamate. I had the problem almost every day when I was waking up and sometimes when I was falling asleep. Being able to look around the room (eyes not FULLY open) and seeing things, like ghosts or demons or even people I knew who lived in the same house (who I knew once I fully woke up were never in the doorway and such) … I would hear loud wave/water rushing sounds that were not there, yet all of it seemed so real. I remember trying to make a sound or move my toe to come out of the paralysis but it would go for at least a few minutes. The first few times it happened my heart was racing and pounding in my chest and I felt like I couldn’t breathe.
I now know awareness during sleep paralysis accounts for many claims of “alien abductions” and “ghost sightings” among other things. I know of a man who has both awareness during sleep paralysis and night terrors and has started paying attention to when he has them. The last big one he had he leaped off the bed and onto the floor and this happened to be a night where he had MSG at a Chinese restaurant. Another guy I know who claims he is not sensitive and eats natural most of the time and went to Red Robin restaurant (who uses PLENTY of Monosodium Glutamate) then had ghosts attacking him while he was in bed trying to wake up without being able to move.
When I changed my diet and took MSG out I no longer had problems until I accidentally had it after eating hot bar soup at Whole Foods (where they CLAIM there is NO MSG in anything—yeah right..what about hidden names, like yeast extract and soy protein?)
Anyway.. if you have awareness during sleep paralysis, night terrors or even some types of vivid dreaming and haven’t bothered to try and eat natural I would recommend trying to do so!

I used to have Attention Deficit Disorder and no longer have it due to the fact I have cut MSG out of my diet (I do not consume the other excitotoxin, Aspartame or any other form of Phenylalanine.)
Since not too long before high school whenever I tried to read a book I had real problems because I could NOT focus and this lasted for well over 10 years. I sometimes would read a line 10 times before I would move on. I had troubles focusing, learning and thinking straight in general. I would get very frazzled and stressed because of this and that would in turn (sometimes) cause an anxiety attack. I would often try and do a few things at once and someone would talk to me and I could not handle it, my common phrase was “I can’t think straight!”
I did not know anything about food additives with the exception of “don’t eat crappy fast foods with grease” until I had what appeared to be heart problems after having MSG at a Chinese restaurant (They put the largest amount of MSG in their food out of all food establishments.) My aunt went on an all natural diet 10 years ago (mine was two years ago-fast food much longer ago than that) and she told me about aspartame around that time. She explained how aspartame causes migraines and neurological problems and may even cause cysts.
Both MSG and Aspartame need to be avoided especially for those who have ADD because I no longer have Attention Deficit Disorder and I can learn anything I want to in whichever way I choose or need to learn it. If I want to learn something all I have to do is pick up a training book or DVD and I’m on my way. I pick it up the first or second time..not the 15th!
Even a friend of mine who thought I was crazy for changing my diet two years ago has eliminated his heart pain and also as he says, “focus problems” since taking these products out of his diet. He has told me on occasion he will go somewhere which may have it and he knows two hours later when he has heart pain and throughout the next day or so with his lack of being able to focus. I am not by any means saying MSG and Aspartame are the be all end all in getting rid of ADD & ADHD but it has worked for the people I know (including myself) who have taken control of their diet and do not go astray from eating all natural.
Do I recommend Ritalin or any other medication for ADD? NO. Eat healthy, exercise and find methods in which you learn best! On a side note⦠Artificial food coloring (especially red) has been documented to be a very bad trigger for those afflicted with ADHD.
This article was written for Rachael… and I will be writing many more articles on Monosodium Glutamate sensitivity issues so stay tuned!
Here is a great article explaining in more detail about preventing ADD & ADHD mostly with diet: Preventing Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and ADHD.
