Organic Shampoo & Conditioner

A couple months ago I started using Avalon Organics Lavender Nourishing Shampoo & Conditioner and have been very happy with the products. I have tried to cut out certain ingredients found in lotions and soaps I use such as parabens, sulfates, hydrolyzed *anything*, whey protein, sodium benzoate, propylene glycol, BHT, aluminum and non-organic products in general. I notice a slight difference in my hormones (for the better) and my hair is different. It’s no longer frizzy! The shampoo and conditioner are not very strong scented and do not have a bad smell. It’s a very good idea to stop using those regular chemical products! Hormonal problems..cancer…etc…

Organic Quick Pasta & Vegetables Dish

You need:

Organic whole grain pasta (I prefer Organic Whole Grain Spelt Shells Pasta)
Organic fresh or frozen mixed vegetables
Organic feta cheese
Organic grape tomatoes
Organic olive oil
Organic balsamic vinegar
Organic mixed seasonings

So first you steam your veggies… I prefer either frozen mixed organic vegetables (for the quickest possible meal. Microwaving also works, do not boil, the veggies will lose their nutrients!) I often like to chop up fresh vegetables and steam them for a few minutes.. these usually include broccoli, baby carrots and sometimes even bell pepper. Boil water for pasta and put your pasta in. When these are done, dump the water out and mix both together in the same pot or large container. Only add the rest of the ingredients when serving. Sprinkle feta cheese on top, a few grape tomatoes then equal amounts of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Don’t use too much, maybe teaspoon to tablespoon of each. I often add Organic omega 3 flax seed oil as well so I can get my omega 3! I love to use fresh garlic (garlic powder is ok), peppercorn ground pepper, oregano, parsley, basil (sometimes fresh basil mixed in when it’s in season!) and thyme.

Raw Agave Nectar for Your Sweet Tooth

I highly recommend to anyone they use organic raw agave nectar instead of sugar in their recipes or in their coffee, etc. I like organic honey a lot and pure organic maple syrup as well as Organic Sucanat but organic raw agave nectar has a low glycemic index so it won’t mess with your blood sugar levels like sugar and especially high fructose corn syrup (avoid this at all costs!) High use of sugar, more specifically high fructose corn syrup and refined (white) sugar are contributing greatly to lots of health problems like obesity, diabetes and hypoglycemia. Organic raw agave nectar is a liquid, looks kind of like organic maple syrup and tastes like liquid sugar.

I use organic raw agave nectar every day (instead of sugar) in my tea and also when I make hot chocolate, mocha’s and even chocolate chip cookies!

Great Organic Salad

I pack an organic salad for lunch every day and it’s not all that expensive! When I go to the store (Mostly Whole Foods) I get the below items and they tend to last 1-3 weeks of salads except the oil & vinegar, those last a LONG time.
Clamshell organic salad (usually mixed baby greens or spring mix - about $3-4)
a bag of 5 organic Gala apples (for about $2.50)
organic dried mixed berries (I get a huge bag at Sam’s Club for about $7)
package of organic feta (usually by Organic Valley)
package of organic grape tomatoes (about $3)
an organic red onion ($1?)
bottle of organic balsamic vinegar
bottle of organic extra virgin olive oil
bottle of organic flax seed oil (Omega 3) (refrigerated)
mixed dried organic seasonings… garlic powder, oregano, parsley, basil, thyme, pepper
Optional:
an organic cucumber ($1-3 depending on size)
package of organic baby carrots ($1.50-$2.50)

For a good medium sized salad, put in some salad, then a few tomatos, a bit of feta, a bit of dried berries, cut slices into an apple and use half the apple, cut off some very small pieces of onion, cut a few slices off a cucumber, and a few carrots. For the dressing if it is a small salad I use TSP of it is medium i use TBS, one each of balsamic vinegar, olive oil & flax seed oil. You can put a dash each of the seasonings (garlic powder, oregano, parsley, basil, thyme, pepper) either directly onto the salad or into the dressing. (note that if you are packing your salad and not eating it right away then you need to put the dressing in a separate container or baggie.)

MSG and Awareness During Sleep Paralysis

I used to have awareness during sleep paralysis until I stopped eating Monosodium Glutamate. I had the problem almost every day when I was waking up and sometimes when I was falling asleep. Being able to look around the room (eyes not FULLY open) and seeing things, like ghosts or demons or even people I knew who lived in the same house (who I knew once I fully woke up were never in the doorway and such) … I would hear loud wave/water rushing sounds that were not there, yet all of it seemed so real. I remember trying to make a sound or move my toe to come out of the paralysis but it would go for at least a few minutes. The first few times it happened my heart was racing and pounding in my chest and I felt like I couldn’t breathe.

I now know awareness during sleep paralysis accounts for many claims of “alien abductions” and “ghost sightings” among other things. I know of a man who has both awareness during sleep paralysis and night terrors and has started paying attention to when he has them. The last big one he had he leaped off the bed and onto the floor and this happened to be a night where he had MSG at a Chinese restaurant. Another guy I know who claims he is not sensitive and eats natural most of the time and went to Red Robin restaurant (who uses PLENTY of Monosodium Glutamate) then had ghosts attacking him while he was in bed trying to wake up without being able to move.

When I changed my diet and took MSG out I no longer had problems until I accidentally had it after eating hot bar soup at Whole Foods (where they CLAIM there is NO MSG in anything—yeah right..what about hidden names, like yeast extract and soy protein?)

Anyway.. if you have awareness during sleep paralysis, night terrors or even some types of vivid dreaming and haven’t bothered to try and eat natural I would recommend trying to do so!

Monosodium Glutamate and ADD

I used to have Attention Deficit Disorder and no longer have it due to the fact I have cut MSG out of my diet (I do not consume the other excitotoxin, Aspartame or any other form of Phenylalanine.)

Since not too long before high school whenever I tried to read a book I had real problems because I could NOT focus and this lasted for well over 10 years. I sometimes would read a line 10 times before I would move on. I had troubles focusing, learning and thinking straight in general. I would get very frazzled and stressed because of this and that would in turn (sometimes) cause an anxiety attack. I would often try and do a few things at once and someone would talk to me and I could not handle it, my common phrase was “I can’t think straight!”

I did not know anything about food additives with the exception of “don’t eat crappy fast foods with grease” until I had what appeared to be heart problems after having MSG at a Chinese restaurant (They put the largest amount of MSG in their food out of all food establishments.) My aunt went on an all natural diet 10 years ago (mine was two years ago-fast food much longer ago than that) and she told me about aspartame around that time. She explained how aspartame causes migraines and neurological problems and may even cause cysts.

Both MSG and Aspartame need to be avoided especially for those who have ADD because I no longer have Attention Deficit Disorder and I can learn anything I want to in whichever way I choose or need to learn it. If I want to learn something all I have to do is pick up a training book or DVD and I’m on my way. I pick it up the first or second time..not the 15th!

Even a friend of mine who thought I was crazy for changing my diet two years ago has eliminated his heart pain and also as he says, “focus problems” since taking these products out of his diet. He has told me on occasion he will go somewhere which may have it and he knows two hours later when he has heart pain and throughout the next day or so with his lack of being able to focus. I am not by any means saying MSG and Aspartame are the be all end all in getting rid of ADD & ADHD but it has worked for the people I know (including myself) who have taken control of their diet and do not go astray from eating all natural.

Do I recommend Ritalin or any other medication for ADD? NO. Eat healthy, exercise and find methods in which you learn best! On a side note… Artificial food coloring (especially red) has been documented to be a very bad trigger for those afflicted with ADHD.

This article was written for Rachael… and I will be writing many more articles on Monosodium Glutamate sensitivity issues so stay tuned!

Here is a great article explaining in more detail about preventing ADD & ADHD mostly with diet: Preventing Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and ADHD.

Chips & Salsa for the Organic Eater

My favorite snack is Organic Blue Corn Chips & Salsa.
I spread some Organic Blue Corn Tortilla Chips evenly on a plate and then shred organic cheddar cheese and sprinkle it on top and put it in the microwave for 20 seconds. The quick and easy way is to then just add some organic salsa on the side. My favorite thing to do is mix Muir Glen Organic Salsa Garlic Cilantro Medium Salsa and Muir Glen Organic Mild Salsa. If I have a little more time, I will heat up either organic pinto beans or organic black beans (I prefer Trader Joe’s Brand) from a can on the stove and then put some in a small bowl and the rest in the fridge for the next week of chips & salsa snacks. I also LOVE to get a bag of organic avocados and then use one at a time and just scoop it out into a bowl (and mush it) with salsa or a bowl with both beans & salsa.

Natural Progesterone Cream for Endometriosis

Estrogen dominance is becoming more and more common amongst women and can cause
all kinds of problems, including Endometriosis. I had a laparoscopy to remove
most of my endo in November 2005 and was prescribed estrogen only birth control
starting in January 2006 and I stopped over the summer because I was having problems
with endo again. It’s really not a good idea to intake estrogen in any form when you have Endometriosis! I have been avoiding pesticides (by

eating organic food) and not eating soy products as well as no longer heating up food in plastic containers as all of these things contain estrogen in some form and will cause estrogen dominant people problems! The only thing that worked the BEST for me along with avoiding estrogen is Natural Progesterone Cream by Organic Excellence. I have been using it for about half a year so far and every month my endometriosis gets better! Less pain, elevated mood, better sleep… its great! The last couple months when the pain came I thought, “That’s all I’m gonna get?” because I no longer needed pain meds and I could function! I really would like to spread the word to those people who haven’t heard of this product yet and make sure other versions of this product aren’t used because many companies who make Progesterone Cream use NON natural ingredients and also some have parabens (also bad for estrogen dominant people). When I explain it to people they don’t seem to get that Natural Progesterone Cream is put on just like lotion in a different area for 15 days straight. I repeat a pattern every 7 days… example.. upper left arm in the morning on day 1 then upper right arm in the evening of day one then lower left arm next morning, and so on. I have a repeating reminder in my Yahoo! Calendar, it works great, especially if you have your reminders emailed to your email or to your phone via text message. I believe it is also possible to Sync your Yahoo! calendar or your Outlook Calendar with a Palm Pilot (I have done this before.) The best part about the pump bottle over the tub is the pump comes out in exact measurements of what you need so you don’t have to use measuring spoons and such. UPDATE: Use of the Natural Progesterone Cream along with my organic diet and use of organic soaps got rid of my endo (stage 4: I was told I was infertile) and I easily became pregnant!

Quick Organic Oatmeal Breakfast

You will need to get some organic quick oats. I usually get them from the bulk section at Whole Foods. The cost is about $2 for a
Plain oats are very boring so I use a bit of organic maple syrup (I use Grade B), a bit of organic cinnamon and a dash of *Organic Sucanat. I found a jug of great organic maple syrup online.

I also recommend some fruit. Organic bananas are the best! I’ve also tried fresh organic raspberries and frozen organic berries..these are also items you will definitely find at Whole Foods.

For those of you who are Vegan, you can use water, but I prefer Organic Whole Milk. I put a small amount of oats in a non-plastic bowl (about a 1/4 cup) then add some milk and put it in the microwave for a minute..then stir it and put it back in for 30 seconds.. I let it sit for about 10 minutes so it puffs up. When I take it out I then add maple syrup, cinnamon and sucanat. Sometimes I use honey instead of maple syrup. I then use the spoon I used to stir the oatmeal to slice the banana and put it in.

*Sucanat (Sugar Cane Natural) is sugar in its most natural form. It is extracted from the sugar cane and the freshly squeezed juice is evaporated by a special Swiss process. Only the water is removed. This process preserves all of the molasses. Sucanat is organically grown with no added preservatives and additives.
